Whisk Is The Best AI Image Generator You've Never Heard Of
Last night I used Whisk for the first time. It blew me away. Whisk is an AI art generator created by Google.
It is currently in an experimental phase and is available via the Google Labs program. I haven’t heard anyone talk about this tool. I only became aware of it after subscribing to Google One, so that I could experiment with some of Google’s lesser known AI projects.
I have played around with a lot of different AI image generators. Wombo Dream, DALL-E (several different variants of it on different platforms), Novel AI, and Ideogram are some of the most notable AI image generators I’ve played around with. For many months, Ideogram has been my go-to AI image generator.
Ideogram is known for its generation speed, ability to follow detailed prompts, ability to remix existing images, negative prompting (the ability to exclude details from generations), and the ability to control the overall color scheme of the image. All of these features are incredible, but the tool is still fairly limited in regards to creating visual stories with consistent characters, consistent settings, and a consistent style. This is where Whisk comes in.
Whisk is far from perfect, but it is a considerable step in the right direction for creating the ideal tool for AI generated comics. The tool allows you to input either text or images to describe the subject (or subjects for a group shot), setting, and style for the generated image. In addition to being able to describe the subject(s), setting, and style: The tool also includes a prompt field that allows you to describe what you want the finished generation to look like.
This is an unparalleled level of control for AI image generation. Playing around with this tool you can create multiple images of the same character(s), in the same setting, in the same style completing different actions. Between generations you can change the setting to have the character in a new scene, add/remove subjects to change the cast, and even change the style example to give everything a new visual flare.
While images are largely consistent between generations, there will occasionally be small details that differ between generations. Whisk is still an experiment after all and is not considered a finished Google product. With that being said, it is still by far one of the most interesting and fun AI image generators I have played around with in a long time.
